explorer right click menu hangs

I unplugged my XP from a small network for a day, and since plugging it back in, right click menu options don't show up for 15 - 20 seconds. It also takes as long to open files with double click (and I'm talking about 1-10 kb text files, too). I thought it might have something to do with syncronizing in tools, but different settings there didn't seem to stick (although I thought it solved the problem, once, but then it started occuring soon after)

Any clues would be appreciated. Thanks
