explorer quits unexpectedly

This is my 2nd rebuild of XP and I am encountering the same problem again.

I googled and found a reference to
07/28/2006 06:30 AM 3,058,176 mshtml.dll

but the one I got (shown above) is later then the fix at the microsoft
support site plus there was no error message about "mshtml.dll" in the
event viewer. I disabled all addins.

I have xp sp2 with latest updates
office 2003 with latest updates
McAfee corporate 8.0.0.13 latest
Visual Studio 2005
Firefox 1.5.0.6

Symptom: clicking on a url can cause explorer to quit. Clicking on "back"
can cause explorer to quit. Sometimes I can click forward and back 3 - 4
times before explorer quits. There are no errors in the event viewer. When
this happens, occassionally other IE6 browsers quit also. Outlook express
is
not affected and stays open.

Out of about 20 times IE6 quits, I got one error message to show up in the
event viewer as shown below:

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module
unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x001f82c0.

-- followed immediately by --

Fault bucket 150406908.

The last time this happened I upgraded to explorer 7 and the problem
disappeared. That was maybe 3 months ago. I just upgraded to a larger disk
drive this week and elected to re-install from scratch rather then clone the
disk.

Hi,
Try to register the DLL that may help and scan for Malwares on your computer.
1= Open a RUN Command and type the following;
regsvr32 urlmon.dll Press Enter or Click OK
regsvr32 mshtml.dll

2= Run Scannow in the RUN Command also;
sfc /scannow
and be ready to hand the CD in if it needed.
Do a one step at a time and reboot your computer to see if the problem solved.
HTH.
Please let us know.
Regards,
nass

Did the above. I also found that there were 3 updates that I had missed:
SP2 for office 2003, KB921580 and KB902417 both associated with office 2003.

I am now getting "Error" and "Information" messages. Some "information"
messages are really fatal errors such as the following:
================
Application popup: iexplore.exe - Application Error : The instruction at
"0x7c911629" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be
"written".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
=================
I am not sure why Microsoft classes this as "information" and not "Error"

Here is another error message that I got bringing up an email in outlook:
====================
Faulting application outlook.exe, version 11.0.6565.0, stamp 42cacc7d,
faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, stamp 00000000, debug? 0, fault
address 0x0013edad.
===========

I am not sure what is going on. I have a Dell Dimension 8300 (P4-3200) with
latest bios. I just checked and there are still 199 days left on warranty.
If ie7 does not fix the problem maybe I can return the system.

I have a lot of stuff on my system that I need, like cygwin, gaim, nero,
vnc. I can't see how any of those could cause a fault when attemting to
read an email. I assume a url in the email caused the fault? ie: it would
still be explorer causing the problem since it handles reading emails with
urls??

Hi,
This Error can be caused by Defective or Damaged Files/Folders for installed
Program on your system or by badly written Software installed.
=Try the following Reduce the size of the TIF ( Temporary Internet Folder)
to say between 50-80 MBs instead of large Disk space which IE can't handel to
Pull quicker when reading TIF.
=Clear your caches ( if you have some cookies or website you can delete them
Individually).
= Disable Add-On for Non MS and See which was Culprit for IE Memory Error
not being read/Written.
=Uninstall/Reinstall IE that may help.
Read this article on the fault error message it may apply to you if you have
the mentioned Software installed;
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831432
= Download the Updates for XP Office and always be sure your computer is
clean from Malware/Viruses, they almost the Culprit for most Error/Problems
of the PC these days.
Please let us know if that was of a help to you.

nass

I had same problem last night and also reloaded XP twice - to no avail. Then
I checked this area, and found out that it all gets fixed if you just delete
Yahoo Toolbar.....

he's not necessarily having problems due to the yahoo toolbar. that problem
causes IE to close immediately after opening it. disabling the browser
extensions stops things like the yahoo toolbar from loading, so it fixes that
problem, and many others.

This seems to be fixed after upgrading flash.ocx from version 6 to whatever.

One of the dozens of fatal errors I "reported to microsoft" finally showed a
solution and I was re-directed to macromedia and eventually adobe and got
their latest and greatest flash. Have been browsing with IE for some time
now and not a single fatal error. Not sure why that flash.ocx did not show
up earlier. Instead ntdll.dll and mshtml.dll where showing up as having
problems and it appears to have been caused by an old version of flash.ocx.
I checked the add/remove and it seems I went from version 6 to version 9.
