512K DDR Dimm was added to my computer (yes correct
memory, same as what was there). now windows explorer
cannot access the C: drive. it opens the floppy, cd and
dvd drives, but hangs if you click on the c drive. files
are accessable through application software (word, etc.),
but microsoft programs such as paintbrush, notepad, etc.
will not load at all. also the system recognizes the new
memory, so I can't figure out what is up with the upgrade.
any clues? Thanks

Try running a memory test program to check the upgrade is working fully.
Just because the OS can "see it" doesn't mean every bit is working. I don't
think there is one free in WinXP so you may need to find one on the web.

Windows is very fussy about *exact* match of RAM characteristics. I
just did a similar upgrade, and when I asked at the www.crucial.com site
for modules available for this motherboard it offered me modules in two
different CAS-L values - I made sure to check the match.

So try with only the new module - if things work with just that you have
matching problems
