I researched the MS knowledge base and it recommended
that I get a hotfix (article # 822430). How do I get
this patch. Everythime I try to use one of my larger
movie files explorer.exe maxes out and I have to kill
explorer.exe and try again. I tried MS support but it
wanted to charge me for a hotfix(?).
Thanks, a very dissappointed MS customer

If it fixes your problem then they should not charge you.
From the kb article:
Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support
calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a
specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will
apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the
specific update in question.

You could try calling them and saying "Windows Stops Responding When I
select click a Large AVI File in Windows Explorer" don't tell them you need
a hotfix, let them work it out for themselves. If they still want to charge
you point out that the knowledge base article says....
