I am a novice, so any help would be appreciated. The last time I was able to get on the internet using explorer was 2/22. I keep getting a message that Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and must close. Any work will be lost. It then goes to ask if I want to send a report. Is there anyway to uninstall explorer and reload it?

The IT person here at work wanted me to run scannow and if that didn't work to install the latest update. I couldn't get scannow to work and when I loaded the update I'm still getting the same problem. I did get a message which said some part of the file was "damaged."

I have an HP Pavilion 533w Windows XP. Thanks so much.

I've been having the same problem for the last 2 days. I can browse the internet going through Windows Explorer and manually typing in the addresses I want to go to in the address bar, but anytime I try to use Internet Explorer or if a link tries to open a new window, IE shuts down. I've tried reinstalling the lastest IE 6 SP1 and get an error message during setup that states the program I'm trying to install has not met the compatibility testing for Windows XP and will not finish the setup. Does anyone have other suggestions?

Apparently some spyware/malware can cause problems with running IE. I ran spybot, ad-aware, and cwshredder and then my IE worked. I hope it works for you too. I know it's been a frustrating problem for me.
