Explorer.exec Unable to Locate Component --SHDOCVW.dll

B

Brian Bowman

Hi:

I just started receiving the following error
message: "Explorer.exec Unable to Locate Component - The
application has failed to start because SHDOCVW.dll was
not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this."

Our desktop is completely blank and we cannot access any
files.

Any suggestions on how to repair this?

Hello Brian,

First, I assume it is a typo, but you state the error message says
"explorer.exec". Is the C at the end really there or was this a typo?

If it is a type, then try the following and see if it resolves the issue
for you.

When booted in with your blank desktop, do a CTRL, ALT and DEL and choose
Task Manager.

In Task Manager click on File then New Task. Type the following -

regsvr32 shdocvw.dll

Again, click on File then New Task. Type the following -

explorer.exe

Does your desktop come back up? If not, then try the following.

See if you can boot to Safe Mode, if so, then run regsvr32 shdocvw.dll from
there and boot back into Normal Mode.

Best regards,
