Running win 2000 with active desktop turned off. On dialup
internet connection. When not connected error message keeps
popping up for internet connection to work off line or try
again. In task manager, application is tracked to
explorer.exe. When this is ended, the error messages stop.
When explorer.exe run again as a new task error messages
continue. Any ideas?

Ok. Went offline. Logged off and on. Here is the message:

No connection to the Internet is currently available. To
view contents that has been saved on your computer, click
Work Offline

Click Try Again to attempt to connect.

I click work offline and:

The Web page you requested is not available offline. To view
this page, click Connect.

I go online and click Connect and the message disappears but
I don't get the web page.

This all sounds normal and expected behavior. What web page? Perhaps the web
site is down?

Don't know. Even if the Website is down I am not dial in so
explorer.exe shouldn't be looking for a web page.

The problem is iexplorer.exe isn't running. It's not in
processes in task manager and I didn't start it. With Active
Desktop turned off, explorer.exe shouldn't be looking
anywhere.

explorer.exe is the windows shell. iexplore.exe (Internet Explorer) is a web
hosting application. This sounds malware related.

Ok. My virus checker and spyware both come out clean. Any
suggestions how to get rid of it?
