explorer.exe stops responding with different users...

Hello, I've the following problem:

When I log in on my XP Pro sp2 pc (with all updates installed) under my
logon name, no problems. When I logon via my wife's credentials I cannot open
"my computer" or explorer. It just doesn't show the window of the explorer.
If I would switch back to my profile -> no problems. If I logon with my kids
logon name, also the same problem. I have reinstalled XP various times,
reflashed the bios, deleted the profiles from the "not working" users. It
does not help. The pc is 100% spyware and virus clean. When I try to logoff
the not responding user I get the message that explorer.exe is not
responding. Internet explorer does also not show a page when the explorer.exe
seems to be crashed. There's nothing special to see in the event viewer. I
still have to try to copy my working profile to another user to see if that
works. I tried to change the rights from a local user account to an
administrator account, still the same problems... I have ran out of
ideas.....please help!

Hmm...sounds very personal to me. Back in about 5 days, i had a same
problem...or just a similar problem.
In my case, i made the cause. I messed up the registry permissions and later
on, there are problems with my Services. If you run "msconfig" in the Run
command, go to Services tab, all the services will pop up. The services that
bugged me was

1. Automatic Updates(This made Turn Off Computer icons to NOT to appear)
2. Network Connections(This made Advanced tab in Customize Start menu froze)
3. Shell Hardware Detection(This completely froze "explorer.exe")
4. Windows Image Acquisition(This kept searching icons in My Computer.)

What really bugged me that i could do almost whatever i want, but limited
account users couldn't even pop up their explorer. If i log on, i start Task
Manager, then click File -> New Task(Run...) -> Browse, and icons on the left
section was all...crappy, i would call. After i was so suspicious about
registry problem, i gave no one to any permission to any part of registry and
next thing is...the computer just froze by displaying the Winows logo that
pops up right before Welcome screen, without even the message "Window is
starting...".

i solved the problem by system restore in the other partition of my hard
drive, but i don't know about your case. Try FORMAT and install the OS. If
the problem keeps occuring, the only thing i can say is that someone in the
earth had messed up your registry permissions. Hope this would help you...

Thanks for your reply. I have tried to install XP various times, even the
Home Edition. I now copied the user profile (my user profile), that seems to
work okay, to the users directories which have problems (I did that remotely
so I cannot check it now). I checked the rights. I have to wait untill
tonight before I check if this works. The services you mentioned, did you
turn them all off? I have installed a lot of XP systems, but never have had
these kind of strange problems...
