Explorer.exe problems on boot

Everytime I boot my computer I make it to the desktop, however the taskbar
will not display. If I do a ctrl alt del, then manually end task on
explorer.exe. Then load it by c:\windows\explorer.exe, everything loads fine
and my system is good for the rest of the day. This happens on a warm boot
as well. Nothing in start up will load until I end task and execute
explorer.exe.

I am not aware of any changes of programs I have added since this problem
began happening. I have cleared out my startup items through msconfig. I
cleared out the Run/Run Services/ and Run Once in Redged it as well under
HKEY_Local_Machine. I have not tried a system restore yet. None of this has
helped. Any additional help is appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

Have you verified that the real Explorer.exe is starting? Make sure there is
not a rogue copy in the root of your drive. You can verify the shell that is
starting here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Look at the "Shell" value there.
