Explorer.exe not working at all

My explorer.exe encountered a problem on thursday night of last week, and is
still not working. My desktop has disappeared. And it is not recognizing my
hard drive. I can get into a few programs from the task manager (hence i am
able to access the internet this way). However, I do not and cannot find out
how to get into system restore. Any suggestion would be helpful
I am running winxp home. with all current updates.

Thank you for the information TaurArian, however yesterday my sound card went
and so did my interent access so I just used my recovery cd's from the
manufacturer. I really appreciate the information though.

Using task manager - File/new task [run]
which will open a command box
At the command prompt type: %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
