When I'm trying to delete a file or right clicking on it,
Windows Explorer stops responding for about a minute.
Then the task is resumed.

However, wehn removing a directory or right clicking on
it causes no problems at all.

Does anyone have an idea what could cause this problem?

Problem solved.
It appeared that the context menu somehow had a link to a
nonexisting (local) host on the network:
\\server\dir\appname.exe

It didn't appear on the menu, but searching the registry
for that hostname and removing the keys solved the
problem.

I have the same problem. What do you mean "context menu?" How did you fix it?
