oops deleted explorer.exe

I recently encountered problems with malware, so when i tried deleting the
files myself I somehow managed to delete the explorer.exe also. When I start
my computer, the only thing that shows up is my desktop background. I am able
to run programs from the task manager.

I've seen some other advice for reinstalling Windows by using the CD,
however, my laptop didn't come with one, it was already installed.

Is there anyway to somehow restore the "explorer.exe" file easily?

The hard way is to use the recovery partition which should reside on the
disk. The fine manual tells how to recover...

It might be possible to use any installation CD in the recovery mode (if
not, I am sure that somebody will tell us otherwise).

It would be pretty tough to delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\explorer.exe while
Windows is running. A, explorer.exe would be in use, so it could not be
deleted. B, Windows File Protection would replace the deleted explorer.exe
with another copy if you did manage to delete it.

background.

This behavior can occur if the Windows settings for a particular user
account are corrupted.

Try logging on as a different user or create a new user account.

I forgot to add that if Windows boots and you see your Desktop, explorer.exe
is probably running. Explorer.exe starts once and that is the Windows
shell. If you start explorer.exe a second time, that is Windows Explorer.

If explorer.exe is still on my computer, it is unable to run. I try to run it
from the task manager, and have also looked for it in the windows registry
and it is not in C:\WINDOWS\system32.

I also have run the "sfc /scannow". It has not found any problems.
