Explorer crash recovery?

On occasion, I will have multiple explorer windows open and one will crash,
causing all the explorer windows to terminate. Any other programs I am
running continue, but may no longer be displayed in the taskbar. My system
tray icons will disappear, including my task manager. When this happens, I
have to re-apply some registry edits to re-establish some of my explorer
wondoes viewing preferences using the 8000 folder regedit from Kelly's.

The only way I have found to restore regular functionality besides the
folder views is by rebooting. Is there any other alternative?

I don't understand why you would have to reapply the edit to increase the
BagsMRU value to 8000 after an explorer crash.

When explorer crashes and then restarts some programs will repopulate the
notification area with their icon and some don't. It depends on the
program - there's no fix for this. One option is to end the programs then
restart them. The other way is to do the logoff/logon.
