Explain how data is stored in excel in your own

Presumbly that would have gone on to say "... in your own words"

So, think about "cells" in a "rectangular grid", "columns referenced
by letters", "rows by numbers", as in a map reference etc.

Obviously, you can't use those words because they're mine !! <bg>
