Expanding my virtual memory

I have recently upgraded from '98 to XP and keep getting a message "virtual
memory too low". How can I expand the size of my pc's virtual memroy.

That error message can be misleading. First of all, we don't know how
much physical memory you have. Windows 98 needed far less than XP does.
For very basic computing, you don't want less than 256MB of RAM for XP.
For more intensive work (games, graphics, video, etc.) then 512MB is
better. So if you don't have at least 256MB of RAM, you need to
increase it. Look in your computer's manual to find out what kind of
RAM you need.

If you have the right amount of physical memory, make sure that you
don't have too many services/programs starting with Windows. This would
also include making sure that your computer is malware-free. Here are

Control Panel/System/Advanced tab, click on performance settings. Go to the
advanced tab, then click change. Make sure that there is not a low upper
limit, and it may help to increase the initial size.

It may also be that the existing pagefile is corrupt. If so, disable it and
reboot. Then restart it.
