Expanding and unexpanding menus

I wanted to know how do you expand and unexpand the start
menu, file menu so when I open a menu I dont get that
little arrow on the bottom of the menu pane, I want that
arrow to go away and stay away and I cant seem to find
where I can change that, I know where it is on Win 2000,
but I cant seem to find it on xp. Does anyone know where
I can change that at?

right click on task bar, click properties, click start
menu tab, click on customize, click on advanced tab, under
start menu items find scroll programs at very bottom and
put a check mark or uncheck it and ok out everything.
