Within the last few days someone posted a tweak on here on how to stop the
registry in XP opening expanded.

Could someone please give me that again as I have lost it.

Many thanks

Just hit the plus sign next to the main keys to close(un-expand) them. Then
click on the my computer key, then exit regedit. Regedit just remembers
where you were last so if you close all branches and click on the my
computer, then exit, the next time you go back in it opens on my computer.
If you have a branch open and your clicked on it and exit, the next time you
come back it goes to where you were. It just remembers the last key you were
on.

OK, no answers to that, so can some please tell me how I can restore the
registry to what is was before I applied this tweak as the registry search
has slowed down to about 10% of what it was.

Run a System Restore. Got to Help and Support, and type in "system restore,"
then choose the link that mentions the Wizard, and follow the prompts. Sorry
about your misadventure.

Thanks for that Climex, but I am not sure of the day that I did it and there
is nothing in system restore to tell me either, and as I have just installed
new hardware in the last week I don't really want to undo that.

I thought that I had saved the posting but ..........

I doubt if it is related, but run regedit.exe and open to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Applets\Regedit

Right click on that key; take Permissions, and highlight your account
(or account type Administrators). click in the Deny box of the Full
Control line so it unchecks and allows full control to you again

No answer? What do you mean. There are two answer to your question posted
just minutes after you asked.
