Exit program warning prompt

I have this habit when reading my e-mail in Outlook and closing my messages,
I'm always inadvertantly closing the main program using the exit "X" button.
Is there any way to set the program to either display a "do you want to exit"
prompt or disable the exit button in the program window only. This would also
be useful in other programs where you have multiple documents open and want
to close them without exiting the application.
Any help or direction would be much appreciated.

Some suggest you create an unaddressed message in your Outbox. That way,
when you accidentally close Outlook it will tell you you have unsent
messages and would you like to send them. This will give you the chance to
cancel the close.
