exit disc check

i have worked around a faulty on/off switch on an old computer by going in to
BIOS on Windows XP Home and setting the power option to resume, so I boot by
turning on and off the power. But "Disc Check" comes on every time and takes
3-4 minutes; it says I can turn it off, but how? I've tried about everying I
can think of. Thanks

The X key might cancel the scan.. that worked with W98 machines.

Generally pressing any key except Y should do it. If not, it is possible
that your keyboard is not enabled at that point. Are you using a wireless
keyboard?
