Exit animations PowerPoint 2002 do not play properly

I have been using animated PowerPoint slides with images fading in and out.
This works fine on my computer running PowerPoint 2002 and 2003, but the
animations do not work when the presentation is played on a third party
computer running a different Service Pack version of the same programs.

Is there a simple way to ensure that all animations are backward compatible?
It seems that the exit animations are the worst performers.

Thanks

Please define "do not work." What exactly do the animations do or not do on
the other computers?

If the other systems really do have PPT 2002 or 2003 loaded, then make sure
that the new animations haven't been disabled under Tools/Options/Edit.

The images are supposed to fade in individually on one slide using a custom
Entrance animation, then after a short delay, fade out using a custom Exit
animation. From what I gather from colleagues I have sent these files to,
the Entrance animation works (ie, the images come in okay on a single slide)
but the Exit animation does not work, leaving a pile up of images on the page
that is a mess (images overlapping and obscuring one another).

Backward compatible? As in earlier versions of PowerPoint? No, not
possible. If PPT 2000 could do everything 2003 can it would be, um, PPT
2003. <g>

To solve the issue, you can turn off the advanced features in 2003 to keep
you from using the new animation features, or you could send it to them as
is and ask them to use the new viewer which does support the new features.

Then either the recipients don't have PPT 2002/2003, or they've turned off
the new animation effects in Tools/Options/Edit.
