Exifer & XP Dating Problem

I normally want my pictures sorted by *Date Picture Taken* when viewed in
Explorer. Unfortunately, before I knew any better, I modified many pics
and thus lost the EXIF data.
I downloaded EXIFER to correct the Date Taken problem. With EXIFER I am
able to correct the Date Created, Modified and Accessed, as viewed on the
picture Properties, General Tab, but it (Date Pic Taken) does not appear on
the
Properties,Summary, Advanced Tab.
In any event, when I do a re-sort in Explorer, it does not work. Obviously
in folder list view, the Date Picture Taken is still blank
How can I get XP and EXIFER to get the Date Taken changed?

I cannot explain why you are having a problem
with exifer. I can only tell you what works for me
on my .jpg image files.

I open Exifer and choose a folder...

I select the image files to be altered...

Type...Ctrl / E....to open the edit screen...

Exif tab / Date tab.

Any date I enter in the "Date Taken" field
will be added to the Advanced Summary
tab of Image Properties.

If the program does not work this way for you...

Try this, maybe it will restore the option:

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

A dialog box should report the following:

"DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded"

Well, I'm going crazy. All of a sudden it started working. I was doing all
you suggested, and then after OKing the edited EXIF screen, I did a Redate
and save just like before, but now it worked...???
Well I'm brain dead for now so to bed. I'll recheck tomorrow, but it looks
like it will start to work. Thanks
I'll report in tomorrow
