I have a file that is 385MB in size. Can i zip it to
reduce it to less than 5MB in size. If so can someone
give me specific directions as to how to do that

Right click it, Send To, Comptessed Folder. Type compressed folders in help for more info.

If the file contains a TON of text, and the text is used as resources, then
maybe RAR or ZIP would do it. But if it contains graphics, sound, or other
binary information, then there is no way you'll decrease it that much. Maybe ZIP
will shave off a couple of megs......

I agree. The work around that I use is: If you have a CD-RW burn it to a
CD-RW disk. With Roxio CD Creator, I use the option that allows for the
CD-RW to be read by any computer. If you were going to email the file to
someone, then just mail them the CD-RW disk with the file on it.

1) You can try, but I would be surprised to see that much compression.
2) If you are trying to get the file small enough to attach to an email, the
file will increase by 33 1/3 % because it has to be encoded.

Why not use a CD-R disc?
The postage will cost more than the disc.

Impossible. Even with a text file.
