.exe file association

I

Information

We have a desktop with XP Home SPx on it.

I'm sure some virus has been removed, and now no applications will start.
When we change the file association, it does not stay and reverts right back
to asking which program to use to open.

I've tried "shellfix.reg", and KB837334 with no success, as well as a
repair. I'm hoping reformatting is not the solution, but I'm running out of
options.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

Dan

if it reverts back, you're system is still infected

What virus? Removed by what? How do you know?

What anti-virus software do you run. What anti-spyware programs do you
run?

It sounds very much like you have a virus (or other kind of malware)
infection, and that it has *not* been removed.
