Exclusive Lock Error message

Ok, I've been trying to figure out this issue for two straight days.

In short: Unable to make any changes due to "exclusive lock" error.

I have Access 2003, and a keeper of a database that is extremely complex
(with lots of relationships, filters, and queries coming from dozens of
tables.

I'm unable to make changes to database as I get this message: You do not
have exclusive access to the database at this time. If you proceed to make
changes, you may not be able to save them later". I can add data, but unable
to make any changes (vb, or design view).

I tried moving all of my tables, queries, forms etc to a new database.
While this kinda worked ( I can now make changes), it changed some of my
queries (and other data that I'm unable to figure out). -I also tried moving
some of my updated tables to a uncorrupted database (from June). That too
was not successful (it kinda worked but not completely).

So, any suggestions how to remove this exclusive lock!!!
I can't even try compacting the database, as it has this lock.

Sorry, simple novice language would be great!

Are you the only one in it? Are you sure? Is the database on a network?
