Exclude from virus scan: softwareDistribution\Database files in Registry

DSG

I was just going to do my regular virus scanning and accidentally ran into
this Microsoft Article ID 822158 and it looks like they forgot to tell *how*
to do it.

For (at least) Windows XP, Microsoft says to use the registry to EXCLUDE
some files (shown below) from the virusscanner, but Article ID 822158
doesn't say how to do this. It just tells you what folder they are in

Datastore.edb file (found in %windir%\softwareDistribution\Datastore)

and the following files from %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore\Logs

Edb*.log

Note The wildcard character indicates that there may be several files.
.. Res1.log
.. Res2.log
.. Edb.chk
.. Tmp.edb

My virusscanner goes into detail about how to choose the files you DO want
to scan, but not how you can exclude specific files (or their folder).

So how do we exclude these files once we get into the registry? I'm
familiar with the registry, but need some instruction for this one

If you want to exclude files from a virus scan, you have to do that from
within the Antivirus program itself. Most of the programs have an area where
you can add these files for exclusion.
