Excessive Time to Hibernate

Please Note: This started BEFORE SP2 was installed.

For some reason, my laptop (less then a year old with 512MB RAM) running XP
Pro takes 7 minutes to enter Hibernation mode. It hasn't always been this way.
It used to take 30-90 seconds at most. But for some reason, several weeks ago,
I noticed it was taking 6-7 minutes to complete the Hibernation. Returning
from Hibernation takes about 30 seconds.

I know, I know, "what did you install"? I cannot for the life of me figure out
what I might have installed to cause this. This is a laptop I use for business
travel so I don't monkey with, or tweak it, too much. Can't afford to have an
"uh-oh" when trying to travel for business. The fact that I cannot remember
exactly when the excessive Hibernation time started doesn't help either.

I have searched through Google and MSKB with no luck. There were a couple of
registry settings that I tried based on some discussion forum information that
I had seen but these had no effect. I've tried deactivating and reactivating
Hibernation, no change. I've tried shutting down ALL running processes and
then do the Hibernation, no change.

Has anyone seen this kind of thing or have any suggestions as to what might be
causing the 7 minute Hibernation time?

Thanks!!

John

Check properties for your disk drive, then check if you have write caching
enabled. I disabled this recently and noticed excessively slow hibernation.
So switched it back on and hibernation is lighting fast again.

About the time someone mentioned checking the disk write cache, I found it was
disabled. VERY strange since it was enabled previously. Something obviously
turned it off without my okie-dokie.

Anyway, I re-enabled the write cache for the disk drive and all is right with
the world...hibernation takes approximately 20 seconds.

Thanks all!!
