Excessive time in "Saving your Settings"

R

Richard

My client's computers seem to all take excessive time
after a user logs off and with the "Saving your Settings"
window displayed. It doesn't matter if the person is using
roaming profiles or not. It doesn't even seem to matter
how large the user's profile is. I know that on my
computer at home, that is not using roaming profiles, I
have a huge profile (over 500M) and it doesn't take very
long at all for the logon window to come up for the next
user.

Any suggestions?

goto Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs > Change/Remove Programs and see
if Q329170 is
listed as an update if it is remove it.

plus

start > run > gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration> Administrative
Template
System > Logon > Maximum retries to unload and update user profile ...
set
enabled and to say 5 ... default if not configured is 60!!

There appears to be a hotfix available from MS (thanks Neo)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814770

but you will have to telephone MS to order it.

Another workaround that can work is to do a

Start
Run
net stop spooler

before shutdown.

Hope that helps
