The problem that has been occuring is that when any of our 5 new
laptops (TP A31s) are not connected to a wireless network (which is
the case most of the time), 2 processes eat cpu usage on a regular
basis. One process, QCWLICON.EXE runs the IBM wireless icon in the
system tray and can be easily disabled using msconfig. However the
second is the system process. At regular 1 minute intervals, the
system process jumps to 25% utilization, and then 2 seconds later
75-95% utilization. The system will momentarily freeze up when this
happens. Like I said before, this only happens when not connected to
a wireless network. In addition, disabling the wireless adapter in
Network Connections temporarily cures the problem (permanently
disabling this is not an option). My guess is that the device driver
for the wireless card is using a thread in the system process during
this period.

I have tried all the standard debugging such as uninstalling and
reinstalling the driver, updating to the current driver version,
upadating bios, and updating IBM access connections.
I have been in contact with IBM regarding this, but they have so far
been unable to help. If any IBM reps are reading this, the case
number is 21TPYPM. If you need further information, please feel free
to ask. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
