Excessive Harddrive activity.....

To anyone who has had this problem,

My machine has recently begun to behave oddly in that the hard disk is being
constantly accessed. Tracing this activity with a couple of different
programs has revealed that "ntuser.dat.log" and "software.log" are two files
being accessed constantly. This has made it impossible for RestoreIT! 3 to
lock the hard drive and set restore points.

Any ideas how to stop this and what is the cause of it?
