Excell error

Whenever I try to open up an excel 2000 file I get the
following message appearing:

MICROSOFT VISUAL BASIC
COMPILE ERROR IN HIDEN MODULE: AUTOEXECNEW

Does anyone know a resolution for this. I was thinking
about removing excel and then reinstalling.

Hi
1 - Check for addins:
Untick any checked Addin in Tools AddIns menu and close and re-open Excel
each time
If error does not appear next to opening Excel this will mean previous addin
unchecked was faulty
2 - Chek for files in xlstart folder
Close Excel and remove any unknown excel files present in this folder
