I am having a problem with Excel. There are times that I will double click
on a shortcut on the desktop and the title bar of exel opens up, you can see
the icons as if you are in the program, but where the spreadsheet would
normally be you still see the desktop.

I normally shut down the computer & restart & all works for a while. I am
running Win XP Pro, Excel XP.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

You mean the Windows desktop is bleeding through the excel application.

I've seen a couple of posts that say this happens in xl2002--I've never seen it.

I believe the solution(?) was to restart the pc.

I've never seen a real solution.

I've seen this in Windows 2000 recently. Things were running very
slow, cpu at 100%. Used Task Manager to terminate
Outlook Express (msimn.exe) as it would not allow itself to
be ended.

BTW, you can look among the things using the most CPU time
but I never see anything that actually churns up 100% of time. But it
goes right down to 2% when you terminate and restart the culprits.
In the case of OE you lose every reply you were working on.
