Excel XP Protection Question

We have a spreadsheet requiring that the cells with formulas be
protected to prevent anyone from inadvertantly over writing them. It
is also required that users be able to add new rows in the middle of
the data list.
I have tried Protecting to allow selecting unlocked cells, and insert
rows. When a row is inserted in the middle of the data, the formulas
are not created in the new row.
Is there a combination of the protection options that will allow this
to happen?

I think I'd provide a macro that would insert a new row and copy the formulas
down.

You might want to look at David McRitchie's macro to start:

And add a line to unprotect the worksheet, do the insert and then reprotect.
