Excel XP freezes for no apparent reason

Excel XP (Office XP Pro), freezes for no apparent reason. The spreadsheets in question were originally created in Excel 97, and they still work in Excel 97. Excel XP never freezes at the same time or place. I could be adding numbers, calculating, or simply using the arrow or Tab keys to move around in the spreadsheet. All other Office program work fine. I've already tried to uninstall and reinstall (there's some time I'll never get back) to no avail

I'm experiencing exactly the same thing using XlXP on an
Omnibook x4500 with Mobility M6 drivers. Microsoft claims
it's the M6 driver, but it's unfortunately only in Excel
that it's happening. What configuration are you using?

I'm leaning more toward it being an issue between Xl97 and
XlXP. The only spreadsheets this happens to are ones
that were originally created in 97 and brought forward to
XP. You?
