Excel stops responding when I try to use bold, italics or underlin

It started this on a large workbook I was working on, but occurs in every
file now. It occurs on single and multiple cells in existing and new
workbooks.

Any ideas?

I am having the same problem! I have a medium size 3 worksheet file. While
trying to BOLD lines EXCEL crashes. I haven't tried this on other
spreadsheets.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

It used to happen to me with Excel 2003 in the past. Thought it's a hardware
issue (not enough memory or so..) Having Vista with Excel 2007 on more robust
hardware I am fine now.
