Select Start-Run and type "excel" (without the quotes) in the Open textbox
and click OK.

If excel starts, you just need to make a new shortcut or copy it from
wherever it went.

Do you mean you have lost the shortcut for Excel? As you haven't made this
clear go to start run type excel and see if excel opens. If it does just
make another shortcut. If excel is not on your computer you need to
reinstall it from the original media.

Hi i typed in excel and hey presto excel appeared ! I also tried to copy or
create a new shortcut but still i keep recieving an installation message <
The feature you are trying to use is on a cd rom or other removable disk.
Also insert Microsoft Office XP Professional with Frontpage> So im still in
the dark as to why i cannot open it in the conventional method.

You can't open it the conventional way because you've lost or deleted the
shortcut to it. Create a new shortcut to it.
From your post it seems you are starting the program properly and without
problems the Start Run way. Is that correct? If it is then create the
shortcut pointing to that same item. If not then please explain clearly what
you mean.

Or reinstall the program from your install CD. You do have it?

Hi Alan, I have tried creating a shortcut, I beleve this is done by right
clicking the icon ? But still no success, Windows is still popping up with
an installation message as before, also a <fatal error occured during
installation >and a <problem with the shortcut> ! sadly i dont have the
cdrom. So it seems my only method of opening Excel is by the start run
procedure. It seems strange that i still retain all of the other Windows
software. Do you think my only option is to purchase a Office 2002 Cd, Also
many thanks for your advice

Do a Search for excel.exe
Note the location.
Right click on the Desktop, New, Shortcut, Browse to the location of
excel.exe...........

Did you lose your original CD? It may be worth contacting MS provided you
registered your purchase to see if you can get a copy for a nominal cost.
Your Registration number for your copy of Office will be in the other
programs of the suite.

btw Stan's suggestion is sound. The Open Office is a sound option (if not
quite as accomplished as Office). There are 2 versions available- a freeware
one so the cost will be minimal- it can downloaded for free if you have
broadband, or one that is more polished as a commercial offering of the same
suite (so you get support).

Personally I like Planmaker by Softmaker- it is an excel compatible
spreadsheet and even works directly in excel format- I find it's better than
the open office offering- although that is good too.

Many thanks for your advice, i followed the instructions and have now managed

to pin excel to the desktop and open in the conventional method. Windows still

seems to pop up with the installation box etc , But that isnt a problem.

Regards Darren.
