Excel - open a windows directory file

mike lesisko

when i double click to open an excel file in the windows
directory, i get a blank "excel" screen. NOT the file i
wanted to open. i must then reenter the filename in
the "open" catagory. HELP
 
Sometimes one of these works:

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

An alternative might be to do:
Try Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)
