excel not opening documents

If I click on an excel file, the excel program opens up but excel doesn't
open up the file.

OS is XP.

Any ideas?

First, check to make sure the workbook isn't actually open:

Window|Arrange|Tiled

If it's not visible, then sometimes one of these works:

Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.
