Excel multiple icons/windows/files

Before Excel 2000 when multiple files were opened within
one instance of Excel, you had to use the Window/Select
File menu option to switch between open files. But when I
switched to Excel 2000 it opened a separate icon on the
taskbar for each file that was open (within one instance
of Excel), thereby allowing the use of Alt-Tab to switch
between open files. For some reason this functionality has
now disappeared and I want to get it back - How?!

To turn on Single Document Interface (SDI) in Microsoft Excel 2000
Tools|Options|View and check "Windows in Taskbar". In either case there is
only one instance of excel.exe running. Task Manager|Processes will confirm
this. SDI cannot be turned off in Microsoft Word 2000 even though normally
only one instance of winword.exe is running.
