Hi,
The other night a friend of mine noticed that all of a sudden all his
Excel workbook files had a new icon. It used to be a spreadsheet with
an X on the front, now they all have an icon that looks like a keyboard
in the form of a computer with a mouse sitting on the key board and two
things sticking out of the top of the computer (like a page of a book
and something like a stick that is red).

The strange thing is that if he proceeds to attach an Excel file to an
email by browsing to locate the file to be attached, the excel files
there are shown with the normal icon.

Does anyone know why the icon has changed? He did not purposely change
the icon.

Thanks for your help.

This might solve your problem.

In "Windows Explorer" go Tools>Folder Options click on the "File Types
tab and scroll down to "Microsoft Excel Worksheet" then click "edit
and then "Change Icon" select the icon you want and then close all the
open windows.

It is Windows, not Excel.
To change the icon open a Explorer file window
View/Options/File Types find Microsoft Excel Worksheet and there is a
option to change the icon

Hi,

Thanks for your help. My friend did this and it worked great.
