Excel hyperlink to another open Excel file - wants to reopen file

I am using hyperlinks to link two excel files but when I click on the
hyperlink, it want s to open the other file even when it is already open.
This leads to warnings about replacing the existing file, dialog boxes to
enable or disable macros, etc. When I first established these links
(yesterday) they worked fine i.e. when I clicked on the link it took me
directly to the bookmark in the open file. Today luck, no matter how many
times I click on the link it wants to open the file. Would appreciate any
help one could provide

One reason this might happen if you have the two files open in different
versions of Excel...

To test open both files..

Copy a few cells from one, switch to the second and Right-Click on any cell
and choose Paste Special... if you see all options like Values, Formulas,
Transpose etc. it means both files are in the SAME INSTANCE otherwise not.

You can also open one file and then open the other from the FILE OPEN
command within Excel and test...
