Excel Help.. PLEASE...

B

Brucey

I am using M$ Excel that I got with Office XP...

I am making a Rugby World Cup spreadsheet...

With scores, tries scored, total points, and so on....

But I am stuck....

I am after a formula that works out that IF a team has scored 5 tries
they get a bonus point, IF the team wins by more than 7 points they
get a bonus point... Also one that works out that a team has won, and
entering that into the Win column...

I want it all to do that from when I enter the scores of the teams,
and tries score...

also, after a formula that works out from the quarter final results
and the semi final teams, and from the semi final results to show
which team goes where for the final and 3rd/4th place play-offs....

Any ideas??

All help appreciated in advance..

well, now I am well getting annoyed with this.

with help from 2 people, I have got ALL of the formulas worked now..

http://www.bruc3y.myby.co.uk/RWC.xls

Just shame I am to thick to work out how to get it to AUTO SORT the
worksheets Pool A, Pool B, Pool C, & Pool D...

Would be good to have a button on the Results sheet that I can just
click and that can AUTO SORT the pools for me, that I have entered the
results in...

The sort order is Column J Descending and then by Column H
Descending..

I hear it has to be done in Visual Basic or something...

I know BASIC coding, but nothing VB.....(

I have been told it is possible to have 4 buttons on 1 worksheet,
relating to 4 OTHER worksheets..... With a macro for EACH button
relating to the worksheets in question....

I have placed a light green fill, and the tag I would like for the
buttons in place on the results worksheet.

All help appreciated in advance.

thank you.)

Bruce,

As I understand it you get a bonus point for 4 tries not 5, and the losing
team gets a bonus if they lose by a margin of 7 point or less, not the
winning team.

I know..

The original message you replied to, was posted 3 weeks ago,
elsewhere. There was more than one set of scoring rules floating
around the net back then, just before the world cup started.

I just reposted it in all the Excel groups as I might have more joy..

IF u looked at that excel spreadsheet (even in IE) u would see that
the formulas represent that...

Brucey -

1. The problem is ill-stated, as you yourself admitted in response to
Bob Phillips' correction.
2. You said in an earlier post that with help from two people, yada yada.
3. Turn on the macro recorder, do what you want the macro to do, read
what steps Excel wrote, and adjust them to generalize your solution.

It isn't..

I was after 4 buttons for my excel spreadsheet...

The buttons to be assigned to 4 different macros.

I have NEVER DONE MY OWN MACRO's.

When I have used them in the past, they was already on the
spreadsheet. All I had to do was click the button.

Actually you are posting among some of the greatest Excel minds out there.....
HOWEVER

1) Cross posting such as yours is generally ignored

2) You are asking about IF statements -- Excel has great help in Functions and
the functions wizards are actually pretty good Part of what you are asking in
the beginning is quite simple if you set up the columns correctly

3)The 2nd part makes no sense

4) Why would you need macros and buttons if the formulas are written correctly?

Do you want to enter the teams and scores in one section then hit a button and
have it look at all the matches and create the results?

Have you searched Google at all for Excel and Rugby? You might get lucky and
find some information already out there

5) You will get less assistance with your attitude exhibited in your reply to
yourself.

There are tons of Excel resources on the web, look around and learn about macros
and buttons etc.

Brucey,

You should realise 2 things.

Few of us will look at spreadsheets, either posted on the web or attached to
the NGs, viruses are so prevalent that it isn't worth it.

If you want help, it helps to not snap back at us. After my response I was
definitely not minded to try to assist any further, and I suspect that Jon
now feels the same.

And to suggest that there is no-one here that knows about macros or buttons
is perverse to put it mildly.
