Excel Files are in use by another user

I have a user who gets the message file is in use by another user when they
go to save the file after changes. The file is not in use by another user,
just himself. This seems to happen after the file has been left opened for a
period of time. You can save the file with a different name. It doesn't
happen on every file or everytime a file is left open for a period of time,
but seems to happen only with this user and his files. All power management
has been disabled on his machine. This is a Windows XP Pro with Office 2007
Professional. It seems to happen whether the file is a local file or a
network file.

DJ,

I have an issue that might be similar, We have a couple of sheets that are
shared on the network by many people throughout the day, intermitently we
have a problem where a user will load the sheet on his workstation, and
later a second user will load the sheet on his workstation and will not get
the "locked readonly message" both users think they have the live sheet and
you make the changes you want and when the user gets ready to exit he finds
out that he has only got the sheet in read only.

It might be related to your issue, It is like the connection between the
excel service and the worksheets is broken .... and not repaired correctly.
