Excel File Does Not Open

In a W2K, Office 97 pc, user can't open some Excel files.
When the problem files are opened, Excel opens but the
file does not open,( the work area is blank). Other Excel
files open OK. I copied the file to a disk and opened it
in another PC and it opens without a problem.
