excel file can not be accessed

Dave

When opening an excel file I get an error that
reads " 'Excel File Name.xls' cannot be accessed. The
file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a
read-only location. Or, the server the document is stored
on may not be responding."

The file is not read-only. The other files in the same
location are readable. The document is stored on a local
drive.

Any suggestions on how to read the file?

Thanks for your time.

I get the same message after emailing excel files to myself at work. It
does not help to clear the temp directory as was suggested above. Any
other ideas? I wonder if Netsape is doing something to the file?

If you save them (instead of opening them), can you go into excel and open them
via File|Open?

If no, then maybe the file got corrupted in the email. I like to email myself
..zip files. then I'll expand them later. If I can't expand them, I know it's
the email--not the application.
