Excel.exe has generated errors

I have a user that is getting this error when working with
Excel 2000.

Operating system Windows 2000 / Office 2000

"EXCEL.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows. You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created." (I have the error log)

Then the programs closes by itself and sometimes corrupts
the excel file being worked on.

Other user with simular PC/OS/Software are not getting
this error. Trying to narrow down why this one user is
getting error. Tried reinstalling Office and even giving
this user a new PC - with same results. Wondering if it
could be another software that maybe causing the problem.

Any suggestion?

Thanks,

J. Robinson

I check the user's security setting on the folder where
the excel file was and found user only had "list & read"
rights. Not having the rights to modify or write to the
file maybe causing this error???

Will test and let you know.

If you think of anything else I can try, please let me
know.

Thanks,

I've had the same error message come up when dealing with
some data that I've put into a worksheet from a CSV file.
It crashes whenever I try to edit any of the imported data.

I'd appreciate it if anyone has an idea as to what is
causing this problem.

Thanks!

SHEEP ADDITION...

I have seen this problem in England/USA/Australia... So this is a problem that MS need to sort. It happens in 97/2000 and I'm sure XP Office.

There are two fixes I know of

1. Delete the user profile or rename it... adding all your icons printers etc again. OR
2. Go into the registry and delete the excel folder and keys under /microsoft office/office. Run excel and it should self repair.

Hope this helps
