I've been having the following problem with excel 97 -
whenever opening from the start menu or under program
files I get the following error

Excel has caused an error in EXCEL.EXE
Excel will now close
If you continue to experience problems, try restarting
your computer.

Excel was working well before and I don't know what
triggered it. Hope someone can help
Thanks

This isn't guaranteed to solve the problem, but it's worth a try. Use
Windows Explorer to search all of your hard disks for files with a .XLB
extension. Delete any that you find. Note that these may be a hidden files,
so you'll need to set Explorer to show hidden files before searching. Excel
uses these files to store information about its toolbar configuration, but
they frequently become corrupt and cause strange errors like this. Excel
will create clean new default versions after you delete the old corrupt
ones, but you will lose any toolbar customizations you've made.

We just starting experienceing this same problem. It was
suggested that we have a bad or contaminated file but we
have had no help with this. Is there anyone out there that
has information to assist with this problem.
