excel.exe -application error

iam facing excel.exe -application error while using excel so any patches
for this problem .
 
This is the error message I receive when I try to open Excel:
EXCEL.EXE - Application Error The application failed to iniitalize properly
(0xc0000006). Click to terminate the application.
Dell wants me to reformat the hard drive, reinstall Windows and then Office.
I can't believe that's the only solution. Everything else on my computer
works just fine.
Does anyone know what may have caused Excel to crash and how to get it back?
