Excel crashes and freezes when formatting large files

Excel freezes when making formatting changes to large
spreadsheets. Uninstalling and reinstalling software did
not resolve the issue. This is really a major problem
since many of my spreadsheet are very large and filled
with macros. Need some suggestions as soon as possible.

Which version and mod-level of excel are you using (help about)?

Are you formatting large areas, columns or what when it crashes?

I am having the same problem, with Excel 2002- the spread
sheet I am updating has about 300 rows and the workbook
contains numerous worksheets. Any suggestions?

Excel 2007 and 2003 Freezing with large files 30mb +

I am also experiencing 'freezing/ white screens' when one or more excel 2007 files are in use and almost certainly having to be auto recovered. Problem is that you can never be sure what contents of the saved file was "not saved" leading to a loss in confidence in the use of such files.


I then downgraded back to Excel 2003 and now get the 'inadequate space' or 'cant update external links' messages.

What is worse, I just upgraded to an upto date platform (though still using XP professional) and was not expecting this problem to persist.
