Excel and USER.EXE

B

Bob

My Excel is frozen in the computer. "Excel has caused an
error in USER.EXE. Excel will now close. If you continue
to experience problems, try restarting your computer."
This does not work. I can't get into Excel. Only the
title page shows along with the continuous hour glass.
Then I have to reboot the computer. Any suggestions on
how to fix this problem so I can get back into Excel? Any
suggestion is appreciated.

Try logging into the PC as another user if you have
another user profile available, if not create one. I've
seen this error before and it was because the user profile
was corrupt.

What OS are you using ?

I'm having the exact same problem! I shut off the
computer, started in safe mode (still had the problem.)
Then I shut off the computer and logged in as a different
user (not in safe mode) - still had the problem. Then I
shut down the computer - logged in as my original user -
AND I WAS ABLE TO START UP EXCEL.

I suspect you have a corrupted toolbar file. This file will be called
xxxxx.xlb (naming conventions changed with versions, but it always has the
extension xlb.

This only holds customisations to the toolbar, so you can delete it. Excel
will create a new one on next re-start. You will have lost any
customisations of course.
