Your post is quite light on details (see links below for how to post so
you can get focused help), but normally you don't open MS Office files
in a browser. Normally you 1) have MS Office installed; or 2) have the
MS Excel and Word viewers installed (you can open and view but not write
to files this way); or 3) you have some other program installed that can
open and read MS Office files such as OpenOffice.

Get MS word and excel - or, better yet, download and install
OpenOffice.org for free - a complete office suite highly compatible with
MS Office. Reads and exports all the MS Office file formats.

OpenOffice is good, but it messes up formatting of Word docs, and the
version handling is not 100% compatible with Word itself. For business
use I'm afraid a lot of us are stuck with Office unless we really like
annoyed customers who doesn't understand why we keep sending them
messed up versions of the contract they would like to sign :)

If you have the Microsoft Office applications for Word and Excel installed,
you have the option of saving them as Web Pages. Just click File > Saves As

But is totally unsuitable for any sort of integrated environment or use of
compound documents with macros/VB code to perform complex tasks or leverage
additional functionality of other systems such as Exchange or Office
SharePoint Server etc.
While you suggestion may be OK for trivial use (write a letter, do some
simple spread sheeting etc) it is totally unsuitable for a serious IT
environment within a corporate space or even the more technically astute
home user..

You can't. You need some kind of program that understands .DOC and Excel
files.

I've read several replies to your message, but I'm not sure that
anyone understands exactly what you are trying to do. I know that I
don't understand.

Please post back, and explain in considerably more detail exactly what
your situation is and what you're trying to accomplish.

Same old reply to each and every problem that you respond to. You are
getting to be a parrot just like Alias. Just FYI.

Now go play in the Ubuntu group.

Which most people don't use anyway. It's only going to take a few minutes
to try it and see if it meets the OPs needs.

I got the impression from the OP that that is not his particular case.

You are correct. Though in five years of use I have yet to see a problem.

Hi ,
I'll try and explain my question :
1. I have got this requirement to open a .doc file, excel file in IE7 browser.
2. This is possible for other operating systems like 2003,XP but not with
Vista.
3. In Vista it if I try opening a .doc or a excel file in IE7 browser it
open in its respective editor which is what i dont require.

Can anybody help me solve this issue....

prasii.

When I click on an .xls file on a webpage, I get the file Download window,
which asks if I want to Open or Save the file.
If I click on Open, it opens it in IE7.
So it can be done. I don't know what to change.
